For example, in February 2020, some reported that Remdesivir, a drug developed by U.S. company Gilead Sciences, might be effect in fighting the virus. Soon after these reports, the Wuhan Institute of Virology applied for the patent on the use of Remdesivir in China. This act was criticized as unethically profiting from the outbreak.
