Ignorance as a Kind of Nourishment
Abstract: World-renowned contemporary Chinese artist Xu Bing explores his experiences as a teenager during the turbulent 1970s in Beijing. He describes his time in the countryside as an "Educated Youth," how he became a member of the famed "class of '77" and reflects on the cultural environment that emerged from the rubble of Mao's Cultural Revolution and how these experiences influenced the growth and development of his artistic practice.
